80th Anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day (September 2) – A Resounding Milestone in the Nation’s History

The year 2025 marks the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution (1945–2025) and National Day (September 2). These two momentous events changed the destiny of Vietnam, ushering the nation into an era of independence and freedom, and opening the path toward socialism.

The August Revolution – A Historic Autumn

In August 1945, under the leadership of the Party and President Ho Chi Minh, the entire Vietnamese people rose up to seize power across the country in just 15 days. This victory ended decades of colonial and feudal rule, giving birth to the Democratic Republic of Vietnam—the first worker-peasant state in Southeast Asia.

National Day (September 2) – The Birth of an Independent Nation

On September 2, 1945, at historic Ba Dinh Square, President Ho Chi Minh read the Declaration of Independence, sol emnly announcing to the world: “Vietnam has the right to be a free and independent country—and in fact is so already.”   Since then, September 2 has become Vietnam’s National Day—a national celebration that ignites a sense of national p ride and deep gratitude for the generations who sacrificed for the nation’s independence and freedom.

Its Meaning Today

On this 80th anniversary, we not only look back at our history but also reaffirm our will for self-reliance, self-improvement, and the promotion of the great national unity. This is also an occasion for every Vietnamese person, whether at home or abroad, to strengthen their bonds and join hands in building a prosperous and civilized nation.

Commemorative Activities Nationwide

This year, many meaningful activities are being organized across the country:

  • Rallies, parades, and artistic performances in major cities.
  • Photo and historical document exhibitions on the August Revolution and National Day.
  • Emulation movements, volunteer activities, and gift-giving to families of those who served the nation.

Eighty years have passed, but the spirit of the autumn of 1945 still resonates, reminding every Vietnamese person of their responsibility to preserve independence, build upon the achievements of our ancestors, and help the country rise strongly on the international stage.
